Ted and Doris Trophy 2007 The Ted and Doris biathlon was established in memory of Ted Clifford (and his wife Doris) who was one of the Clubs original members and a participant in both sports as a competitor, official and supporter. The shortest combined time for a running event and a bike event determines the winner. The event brings the whole Club together in a special sporting way which demands a "have-a-go" spirit however it is highly competitive at the top end. The event was cancelled in 2006 because of an unfortunate combination of
circumstances. It returns this year with a new and safer cycle route that is
trimmed down to about 12 miles. This avoids areas which can be blackspots for
the inexperienced cyclist. Anyone can take part but the trophy can only be presented to a first
claim member of LC&AC who is not also a first claim member of another cycling or
athletics club. There is always huge debate over which event presents the greatest
challenge. Do the courses favour the cyclists or the athletes? Should there be a
gap of an hour, a day or a week between events? Which should be first - the bike
or the run? Do triathletes have an advantage? These questions do not matter
because the objective is to bring the whole Club together in a sporting spirit
through a competition which allows everybody to have a go at the other
discipline. All members of the club should consider this event in their calendars for
the year. It’s not too far away now from the 2007 event - the dates are 8th
August for the bike (12 miles) at Harbury - details from Steve Walker 882037 and
16th August for the run (4 miles) at Myton Road - details from Alan Edwards
492287. There's still time to train and we can make it a reallygood event. If any club members have comments about this event then please let your committees know them. Map for the cycling course
