Herring goes close

John Herring scored yet another win, his fourth in succession, in the Leamington C&AC 25 mile TT on a wild and windy evening. His time of 1hr 27 seconds was over 1.1/2 minutes better than second placed man, Dave Bennett (1h 2m 2s), who, on this occasion, turned the tables and relegated Tony Smith to 3rd place (1h 2m 37s). Another solid performance by Arthur Beeton augers well for the future as he finished just outside the top 3 with a commendable 1h 3m 1s; it will not be too long before he takes a "podium" place.

In a rare appearance over the 25 mile distance veteran roadman Martin Hackley (1 h 7m 5s) "pushed" some of the regulars to lower placings, whilst Will Wilson (1h 17 39) was far from being last man, even though he rode a relatively heavy mountain bike with tractor-like tyres. Athlete Cavin Woodward (1h 15m 47s) is starting to creep-up he finishing order and must have fellow runner, Alan Edwards firmly in his sights.

Current Vaughan Trophy holder, Matthew Wallington, could improve his times if he can learn to pedal down hill as fast as he pedals up! Free wheeling down Ufton hill at 30 mph prevented him from a higher placing.
