New Cadd on the block

After a lengthy absence, senior riders finished in the first two places of Leamington's 25 mile championship and in the process preceded a long list of the over 40's. Roadman Tim Cadd (59m 43s) produced a brilliant championship winning ride, in favourable weather conditions, and was the only rider under-the-hour in the largest field (25) of LC&AC riders seen in a club event for many years.

Ever improving Art' Beeton finished just 6 seconds on the wrong side of the hour, to record yet another PB and well ahead of fastest veteran John Herring (1 00 46) - an unusual position for the early season multi-distance winner. The following 3 vet's: Tony Smith, Len Orrick and Mike Ford, were all separated by approximately 1 minute each, with Ford (1 3 39) just winning the scrap for 6th place ahead of roadman Martin Hackley (1 3 53), Chris Blomfield (1 3 56) and Paul Preston (1 3 59).

3rd fastest senior rider was new-comer Justin Haynes (1 5 47) in 10th place overall whilst the ladies event was "easily" won by Pam Styles (1 1147) who also disposed of some male scalps in the process, 2nd place went to Christine Walker (1 15 48) and 3rd to yet another new-comer: Tina Mullins (1 18 43) who managed to put half a minute's gap between herself and last man Seth Mayhew.

Pam Styles had, on the previous Sunday, recorded a PB 1h 11m 36s in the Evesham and District open 25 mile event, an improvement of 5 minutes. On any other occasion this sort of improvement would have guaranteed 1st place in the Handicap prize list but alas there was no such prize on offer! In that same event, other Leamington riders times were: Tony Smith 1h 1m 29s, Paul Preston 1 3 51, Steve Walker 1 6 14 and Chris Walker 1 14 37.
