There's no stopping Beeton now!

Arthur Beeton made good use of the near "float" conditions to score an 11 second win in his club's 10 mile time trial on the Princethorpe circuit. 37 year-old Beeton led the field home with a 22 minute 55 second to confirm his short distance superiority over his older clubmates, of whom Martin Hackley made a dramatic improvement in recording 23m 06s, his best ride for many years, to just out-smart fellow veteran John Herring by the merest of margins (1 sec').

Most Wednesday nights, throughout the season, had brought windy conditions to the club's competitions but on this occasion the god's smiled favourably on the "testers"; what slight breeze there was at the beginning of the event soon died-away and the warm conditions proved ideal for the course.

Pam Styles (27 39), once again, led home the other ladies: Christine Walker (29 10) and newcomer Nadine Garioud, who recorded a personal best 29m 52s - a first time beating of the 30 minute barrier.

There are just two evening events left before the season draws to a close, both on the slower Fosse Way course: a 10 mile event and a "5" on the 21st and 28th August respectively. The "open" events, throughout the Midlands, continue well into the month of October and the 10 mile event being organised by Steve Walker, on Sept' 15, is of special interest because it is being used as a dress rehearsal for next year's 10 mile Championship, which is being promoted by the Leamington club. The event HQ will be at Princethorpe College and there's masses of parking, showers and changing facilities, plus the use of a large sports hall.
